A fish species of high conservation value. Also known as the Bellinger River eel-tailed catfish, Tandan or Willung.

Sea mullet

Sea mullet - a high commercial value species. Also known as bully mullet or striped mullet.

Freshwater mullet

Freshwater mullet - a commercial and conservation value species. Also known as Pinkeye mullet or locally as 'Pointys'. The Federal Government is currently determining whether this species should be classed as 'threatened'.

Estuarine fish species

Data is provided on five typically estuarine fish species that at times enter the lower Hastings River:   Yellow-finned bream, Estuary perchlets, Common silver biddys, Dusky flathead and Snub-nosed garfish. Most of these are recreationally and commercially important. Summary data is presented on richness and the total abundance of this assemblage of fishes.

Aquatic biodiversity

Data is presented on changes in the aquatic biodiversity (richness/diversity) in the lower Hastings River - a measure of system health. The number of aquatic taxa (fish and larger macroinvertebrates) is the specific measure examined.
